The Association for Human Right Protection of Roma – Stip was established in October 1997 in order to address the large number of cases of violations of human rights of Roma and to provide free legal aid to Roma. Objectives of the organisation:
  • Researching, monitoring and reporting on the situation of human rights of Roma;
  • Legal protection: giving free legal services in cases of violation on human rights of Roma;
  • Education: Educating Roma people about human rights of Roma;
  • Representation and promotion of Roma rights in front of domestic, international, governmental and non-governmental institutions;
  • Documentation: creating an archive for the rights of Roma and publishing reports and bulletins;
  • Creation of Roma media in Republic of Macedonia

The Association for Human Right Protection of Roma – Stip is a member of FUEN since 2018.

In the 2002 census, 53,879 people self-identified as Roma. Other sources claim the number to be between 80 000 and 260 000 Roma in North Macedonia or approximately 4 to 12% of the total population.
