2nd Annual Meeting of the FUEN Working Group NKS in Bredstedt/Bräist (Germany)

As part of this year’s FUEN Congress, the Working Group NKS met on 20 September 2024 at Friisk Hüs, the joint headquarters of the Frisian associations Friesenrat Section North e.V., Friesenrat, and Friisk Foriining, in Bredstedt/Bräist for an internal meeting. The agenda included an exchange between the representatives of the member organisations, a coffee break with Frisian cake, and a short tour of the permanent exhibition at the Nordfriisk Instituut. 

Due to time constraints, the internal meeting of the working group was somewhat shorter this time, focusing on the exchange of important information and updates. Additionally, there was a vote on the host organisation of the NKS annual conference in 2025. The result: it was unanimously decided to organise the conference together with the Ladins of the Union Generela di Ladins dla Dolomites. 

During the coffee break, where traditional Frisian cake was served, the participants took the opportunity to exchange views on pressing issues, common interests, and initial proposals for the upcoming annual meeting with the Ladins. Several exciting ideas were already discussed. However, the break primarily served as an opportunity for intensive networking between the representatives of the member organisations. 

Finally, the group visited the “Nordfriisk Futuur” exhibition at the Nordfriisk Instituut. With short films, thematic stations, and interactive elements, the exhibition offers an engaging presentation of North Frisian history, culture, and language. There was much to discover and learn about the Frisians and their rich heritage.
